Food Dudes to visit local school

Preparations are under way in Mayo schools as pupils and teachers alike pave the way for the introduction of a new healthy eating programme. The objective of the Food Dudes programme, run by Bord Bia, with funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the EU School Fruit Scheme, is to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables both in school and at home. The programme is currently being introduced to primary schools nationwide.

Bord Bia & FDII launch new mentoring programme

A new structured mentoring initiative where the expertise of leading indigenous food and drink companies will be shared with small food firms was launched this week at Bord Bia’s Small Business Open Day. More than 120 food companies gathered in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin, to hear how global food and drink companies such as Glanbia, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Kepak, Bulmers, and Kraft will offer their advice and expertise to small food firms in the key areas of business strategy, account management, and logistics. The mentoring programme will be coordinated by Bord Bia in cooperation with FDII (Food and Drink Industry Ireland).

Single Farm Payments processed for Mayo as agri sector thrives

Minister of State for Tourism & Sport, Michael Ring has has said that the agri-food sector is on course for another strong year, following bumper export results for 2011. The Minister of State also confirmed that 98% of Single Farm Payments have been paid to farmers in County Mayo with outstanding payments set to be processed as quickly as possible.

McCambridges food and wine fair displays the goodies that are available on our own doorstep

Last Thursday the Salthill Hotel was a taste for the senses as McCambridge’s on Shop Street celebrated its eighth annual Food and Wine Fair. Proceeds raised on the evening all went to a local charity and national schools. The function room was a myriad of tasty treats, heart warming snacks, award winning artisan produce, sweet delicacies and rich wines from some 40 award winning food and wine producers, many of whome are from the immediate Galway area.
